WALK WITH ME
June 24-26, 2026 | Mosida Trek Site
We’re excited you’ll be part of the Hidden Valley Stake Youth Trek! Trek is a special activity where youth and leaders work together, walk together, and learn together—similar to what the pioneers did on their journey across the plains in the mid-1800’s.. Youth trek is meant to help you build faith, confidence, friendships, and appreciation for those who came before us.
This page has some of the information you need to know so you can feel prepared and excited.

What is the purpose of Stake Youth Trek?
Youth Trek is a 3‑day experience where we step away from everyday life and focus on:
- Strengthening our faith in Jesus Christ
- Learning pioneer history and sacrifice
- Building teamwork and leadership
- Having fun through challenges, stories, music, and testimony
We’ll travel on foot for portions of the trek, work in groups, and spend time learning and reflecting together.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
- Youth ages 14–18 (or turning 14 this year). Some have asked whether they can bring a friend who is not a member of the Church, or a family member who lives outside our stake boundaries. In both cases, the answer is generally “yes”, provided we have enough transportation and food to accommodate everyone.
- Adult leaders and volunteers who are called by the stake
You do not need to be an expert hiker or athlete. You just need a willing heart and a good attitude.
- Walking and pulling handcarts (with frequent breaks)
- Eating simple meals together
- Sleeping in tents
- Learning pioneer stories and gospel lessons
- Group activities, devotionals, and testimonies
It will be challenging at times, but also meaningful and rewarding. Trek is about teamwork and helping each other.
The site is generally flat, and the trail wanders through sagebrush, tamarisk, and grasslands. Travel is generally on groomed trails. It can be very muddy when it rains.
We ask that each participant contribute $50. This helps cover the cost of bus transportation, site registration, food and activities. If the cost of trek is a concern, please contact your bishop – help is available.
- You’ll receive a detailed packing list later, but plan for:
- Modest pioneer‑style clothing
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen & hat
- Sleeping bag and pad
- Personal items (toiletries, medications)
More details will come closer to trek. We will provide everyone a detailed packing list.
The short answer to this question is “yes”, you need to wear pioneer clothes. For boys, long sleeve shirts; long pants (not jeans); comfortable shoes; and a hat is suggested. For girls, a long, period-appropriate skirt; a long sleeve blouse; a hat or bonnet; and comfortable shoes are recommended.
Pioneer-styled clothing not only puts us into an appropriate frame of mind, but also protects us from scrapes, scratches, sunburn and bug bites.
Stake leaders carefully and prayerfully group participants into “families”. Each family consists of a Ma and Pa (typically a married couple), and about eight to 10 youth. The goal is to have a good mix of ages in each family.
Participants will be split up into families upon arriving at the trek site. Once families are formed, youth are expected to stay with their families for the duration of experience.
If it’s one thing the Hidden Valley Stake does well – it’s food. There is an entire stake committee whose sole responsibility is to plan all of the meals and snacks for Trek.
If you have special dietary restrictions – such as allergies or intolerances – please be sure to identify those restrictions on your registration and health forms.
Trek is a wilderness-like experience, and therefore you won’t see any restrooms with hot running water. You will fine, however, plenty of porta-potties along the trail. And while there won’t be water for showers or baths, there will be plenty of water available to wash your hands and face.
Please leave phones at home. There will be plenty of volunteers and staff on hand to help you communicate with your family in the case of an emergency. And parents will be given contact information so they can contact you on Trek if needed.
Stake leaders have asked several adults to serve as photographers and historians for Trek. A gallery of those photos will be made available to you so you can remember Trek for generations.
We respectfully ask that you dedicate yourself to the entirety of Trek from June 24-26. We cannot allow participants to arrive late or leave early. We have reserved tour buses to provide transportation to and from St. George. Also, barring an extreme emergency, we cannot allow vehicles on the Trek routes to extract a youth from their assigned family.
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
